Frequently Asked Questions
01
What is Summer BeachLife?
Summer BeachLife is the successor to the Summer Beach Volleyball Circuit, which has been running for over 30 years and was formerly known as the "LiptonIce" or "Palm Beach" circuit. This beach sports circuit travels along beaches and lakes throughout the Netherlands and combines sports with a lively festival atmosphere. In addition to beach volleyball, which is the core of the event, Summer BeachLife now also offers other popular beach sports, such as beach tennis.

The event is perfect for exercising, having fun, and meeting new people. Registration is required for participation, but everyone is welcome to come and watch. Center courts with terraces and catering facilities create a pleasant atmosphere. Summer BeachLife offers tournaments at all levels: from recreational competitions to official national beach competitions such as the Top Division, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Division Beach Volleyball, and even the Premier League Beach Tennis at select locations.
Play, relax, and enjoy – alone or with friends. Whether you participate or just come and watch, Summer BeachLife offers a unique beach experience!
02
What does a Summer BeachLife day look like?
Each day of the Summer BeachLife Circuit is a separate tournament day. Upon arrival at the venue, you will be told which court your team will be playing on and which pool you have been assigned to. The last team member to check in at the registration desk will receive a scoreboard, a match form, or access to the Tournify app, which shows who, when, and where to play, referee, or count. If you are new to these tasks, the other teams will be happy to help you get started!
Beach Volleyball
In addition to your own matches, you will also referee matches for other teams in your pool. Scores are tracked via the form or in the Tournify app. After submitting your results, teams will be reassigned to the afternoon pools. The start time of your afternoon round will be announced via the broadcaster or an app notification. If there are many registrations, there may also be semi-finals and finals.
Beach Tennis
Beach tennis players usually count themselves and enter the scores together. After the morning pool, the teams will be regrouped for an afternoon pool.
End of the Day
After the afternoon pool, the tournament is over for you, unless you finish in the top 3. In that case, there will be an awards ceremony with a group photo at the ceremony stage. Afterwards, you can relax at the center court with a drink or in the lounge.

Which level is best for me?
During the Summer BeachLife Circuit, you and your friends will experience an unforgettable, sporty, and sunny day. Even when the sun isn't shining, you'll be the sunshine of the house, uh... on the sand! With summer beats in the background, you and your beach partner(s) will reach a surprisingly high level. This applies to everyone, which is why we have different levels for the various sports.
Beach Volleyball
While everyone excels, we have different levels you can register for:
2 vs. 2 High | Women/Men/Mixed
Comparable to the first, second, and third divisions in the Netherlands and Belgium.
2 vs. 2 Middle | Women/Men/Mixed
Comparable to the promotion, first, and second divisions in the Netherlands and the first provincial division in Belgium.
2 vs. 2 Low | Women/Men/Mixed
For beginners and recreational beach volleyball players in the Netherlands and Belgium.
3 vs. 3 | Women/Men/Mixed
This category is primarily focused on fun. Participation is more important than winning!
4 vs. 4 | Women/Men/Mixed
We offer limited 4 vs. 4 opportunities. Bring your whole group of friends! This category, too, is primarily about fun, not about winning.
Beach Tennis
Are you a beginner or a more experienced beach tennis player? Then you can always participate in our recreational categories.
Are you already a bit more experienced? Then you might want to register for a Beach Tennis Ranking Tournament. All our beach tennis registrations are handled through Tournify.nl.
We offer the following beach tennis categories:
Men's Doubles
Women's Doubles
Mixed Doubles

Until when can I unsubscribe?
Once you have registered, the following rules apply. Please understand that we plan the tournaments well in advance and therefore incur costs to ensure the best possible tournament for you.

This applies ONLY to recreational participants in the Summer BeachLife event and not to teams participating in the Nevobo National Beach Competition, such as the Top Division, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Division.
Withdrawal/Deregistration:
Refunds are no longer possible two weeks before the event. After this period, you can no longer deregister online.
We have a deregistration deadline. If you deregister before this deadline, you will receive a voucher/100% discount code for another tournament day.

This deadline is always the Thursday at 3:00 PM prior to your tournament weekend, regardless of whether you play on Saturday or Sunday.

If you wish to unregister your team from a tournament day and you do so BEFORE the unregistration deadline, you will receive a 100% discount code for another tournament day. You can only unregister by emailing info@summerbeachlife.nl. The time of receipt of your email is important to us.

If you unregister AFTER the unregistration deadline, you will not receive a refund or discount code. After the unregistration deadline, we begin the final preparations for the weekend.

Changes:
Try to arrange your registration yourself as best as possible and avoid last-minute changes.
You must submit any changes by email. Changes made by phone will NOT be accepted or processed.
Please send changes to info@summerbeachlife.nl.
10
Can I change my team after registration?
Yes, that's possible. Please send an email to quinty@summerbeachlife.nl.
11
When will I receive more information about the tournament after I register?
After registering for one of our tournaments, you will receive a program booklet by email two weeks before the start and on the Friday before the event. This booklet contains all the latest information, updates, and details you need for a successful participation in the Summer BeachLife tournament. Be sure to check your email regularly, as it contains important information about your schedule, venue facilities, and any last-minute changes.
If you haven't received a program booklet by the Friday before the tournament for which you registered, please contact us at communicatie@summerbeachlife.nl so we can ensure you receive all the necessary information on time.
12
Do I need to bring my own ball or racket?
Beach Volleyball
Yes, this is convenient. We do NOT provide match balls because too many balls get lost, and given the number of courts, it's impossible for us to keep track of all the balls. You'll also want to warm up, so a ball is very useful. Before the start of a match, you'll decide among yourselves which ball will be used. An official match ball takes precedence over a recreational ball. Balls are also always available for purchase in the on-site webshop. We do NOT lend out balls.
Beach Tennis
We also do not lend out rackets for beach tennis. Beach tennis rackets can be rented from the beach shop or the organizers' container for €7.50 per day. ID is required.
13
What time should I report on location?
On-site, you can check in with the tournament director from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. The director is usually located at the center court and is clearly marked. Sometimes there's a line, so please check first to make sure you're not waiting in the coffee line. Don't arrive late! This will unnecessarily complicate the (re)assignment of the teams, and other teams will have to wait for you. Nobody wants that!
14
What time does a tournament start and end?
Beach Volleyball
Summer BeachLife tournaments aren't played at a fixed time, so it's difficult to specify the exact times. Summer BeachLife starts at 10:00 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. You'll be assigned to a pool in the morning, and play the morning round (and sometimes the afternoon round as well). Everyone will play for one set won against all the other teams, after which the morning pool is "finished." Matches are tracked in the TOURNIFY app. After the morning round, the tournament director will re-sequence the afternoon round. You'll then play against all the other teams for one set won or best of three. Depending on the pace of play, you could finish at 4:00 PM, 5:00 PM, or sometimes later, because who knows, you might even play the final of the day!
On Friday evenings, matches are played between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Registration opens at 5:30 PM.

Beach Tennis
For the Summer BeachLife recreational beach tennis tournaments, we start at 11:00 AM (unless otherwise indicated). We will assess the number of registrations and generally play one morning round and one afternoon round.
For the Beach Tennis Ranking tournaments, we adhere to the KNLTB guidelines, and we also start at 11:00 AM.
15
How does the counting and refereeing of a match work?
You'll count and referee in your own pool. This means that when you're not playing a match, you'll count and referee for the other teams in your pool. This ensures fair and accurate scoring and helps maintain sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
16
Summer BeachLife works with Tournify, how does that work?
-
Find your Team: After registering, you'll receive a link in your confirmation email. Use this link to find your team in Tournify.
-
View the Match Schedule: The full match schedule is visible via the link. Check when and against whom you're playing, so you're always on time for your matches.
-
Enter Results: After each match, you can enter the results immediately. This ensures the standings are updated immediately.
-
Follow the Standings: Keep an eye on the live standings and rankings. This way, you'll know exactly how your team is doing in the tournament.
-
Need Help? If you need help or are experiencing problems, you can always contact the match officials in the organizers' container. They can also enter the results for you if you're having trouble.
17
Are there ranking points to be earned?
Starting in 2024, Summer BeachLife will no longer use ranking points as in the past. There will no longer be a link to the national beach volleyball tournaments, nor will there be a separate ranking. Each tournament day is a separate day.

Our beach tennis tournaments are registered with the Royal Dutch Tennis Association (KNLTB), but are completely independent. The results of the recreational tournaments can be submitted to the KNLTB. If you are a KNLTB member, you will also receive ranking points for these KNLTB beach tennis tournaments. In that case, you must inform us so we can process the results correctly.
18
Is there anything to win?
Absolutely! We're giving away cool and fun prizes every tournament day. To win, you need to finish first, second, or third in your category. There are also other prizes to be won, for which we're organizing additional promotions. For example, in 2024, you could win a cool Illy coffee machine with the most creative team photo! And a huge bottle of Nobel during a beach tennis game. So there's always something great to win thanks to our sponsors and partners.
19
What happens in bad weather?
A tournament day is almost never canceled before 11:00 AM. Especially at coastal locations, the weather can vary from kilometer to kilometer. Only when the forecast is so poor (e.g., wind force 10, code red) can a tournament be canceled in advance.

If the weather conditions are poor (thunderstorms, wind force >6, heavy rain, flooded fields, etc.), the following protocol will take effect:
Weather forecasts: From 7:30 AM, the organizers will continuously monitor the weather forecasts to decide whether the tournament can start or must be postponed.
Decision: The possibility of starting the tournament will be assessed by 11:00 AM at the latest. Teams will be kept informed of current developments and weather forecasts throughout the process.

Cancellation: If it appears that no improvement is expected, the tournament day will be canceled.

If a tournament is canceled, teams registered on-site will have the option to reschedule their weekend free of charge. If this isn't possible, they will receive a refund of their registration fee, minus a €7.50 administration fee. Cancellations due to weather are considered force majeure for the organizers.
20
Is there first aid available?
Yes, the organizers will ensure that professional and certified first aiders are present at every location to treat injuries and/or wounds. At the start of the tournament, the location of the first aid station will be announced. This station is easily recognizable by a prominent flag and is always located around the Center Court.
We attach great importance to the safety of all participants. Therefore, we also have a physiotherapist available at certain locations to quickly intervene in case of injuries. Don't forget to drink enough water! We have water stations at the venue to ensure you stay hydrated. Also, bring a healthy snack to maintain your energy levels. Your well-being is our priority!
21
Can I get something to eat and drink?
Yes, at each location, we have our own catering unit where you can get drinks. Depending on the location, there may also be food available. At almost every location, we collaborate with a beach pavilion or other catering establishment, where you can enjoy a good lunch or delicious dinner.

Please keep in mind that both we and you are guests at these locations. Therefore, it is not permitted to bring your own snacks and drinks to the terrace. We want to ensure that all guests, both participants and other visitors, have a pleasant experience. So enjoy the provided catering and respect local etiquette!
22
Cash or pin on location?
This varies by location. It's wise to bring both cash and your pin!

We always have an ATM at every location, but sometimes the Wi-Fi connection can be too weak, making card payments impossible. In that case, it's helpful to have cash on hand. If you're really in trouble, we can also send a Tikkie payment in an emergency.
23
Can I come to the event as a spectator?
Yes, absolutely! We wholeheartedly encourage it. It's always fun to come and cheer on your friends, family, or clubmates while enjoying the food and drinks, the wonderful weather, the sportsmanship, and the great beach vibes! We'll also provide great music, so be sure to bring all your friends and family to cheer you on!
24
Are there overnight accommodations near the location?
Yes, overnight accommodations are available at most locations. However, you'll need to arrange these yourself, as they can't be booked through us. It's a great way to make a weekend of it!

Are you coming from the east or south of the country, for example? Then make it a fun day out with your team or friends! We always do this on Ameland, but you can also do it in Scheveningen or Wijk aan Zee. It's a fantastic opportunity to not only play beach volleyball but also explore the surrounding area. There's plenty to do at the Summer BeachLife locations!
25
Do you have any special game rules?
We believe in fewer rules and more fun during sports. To ensure everything runs smoothly, we do have a few rules. Our rules may be a bit more relaxed than the official competition rules, but you can find our beach volleyball rules here and click here for our beach tennis rules.
We also have a Players Agreement. Since we host part of the national beach competition and work closely with the Nevobo (Dutch Volleyball Association), we also adhere to their Players Agreement. You can find this agreement here.
26
What about liability?
The employees of the Summer BeachLife Circuit, the Nevobo, participating volleyball clubs, and sponsors are not liable for:
-
Injuries sustained during and at Summer BeachLife Circuit tournaments.
-
Loss, theft, and/or destruction of participants' property during and at Summer BeachLife Circuit tournaments.
However, we do everything within our power to prevent these unpleasant situations.
27
