SUMMER BEACHLIFE - BEACH VOLLEYBALL
RULES OF THE GAME
Here you will find the rules that apply to Summer BeachLife - Beach Volleyball.
-
Scoring: You play one set to 21 points (with a two-point difference). The set is played according to the rally-point system. This means that after each rally, a point is awarded to the winner of the rally.
-
Court Substitutions: Ends are changed after every 7 points.
-
Timeouts: Timeouts are not permitted in Summer BeachLife.
-
Player Substitutions: Player substitutions are not permitted in the 2-on-2 category. In the other categories, player substitutions are permitted at certain times: changing ends after every 7 points and during the "turn-in" at the service court.
-
Foot Faults: There is no center line in beach volleyball. A player may therefore enter the opponent's court, provided that this does not directly or indirectly obstruct the opponent!
-
Serve: As a player, you may serve from behind the entire back line. You have one service attempt. A faulty serve results in the point going to the opponent.
-
Screening: During service, the opponent's line of sight may not be obstructed by your teammate(s). This is also called fencing.
-
Serve via the net: A serve that touches the net and ends up in the opponent's court is allowed.
-
Serve passing: The opponent may serve overhand (softly), provided that this overhand ball is considered a set-up for the attacker. Hard contact overhand is always permitted, even if this hard overhand ball is not considered a set-up for the attacker.
-
It is desirable that this rule, as well as the other technical rules, be applied very flexibly, especially in the 4x4 mixed category.
-
Set-up: A ball intended to be a set-up may be played over the net. If this cannot be assessed, a double fault occurs. Internationally, the ball may not rotate more than once during the set-up, but it may be played overhead in a fluid, carrying motion. During Summer BeachLife, we only follow the second part of this rule. The ball may rotate and may also be played overhead in a carrying motion.
-
Attack: The attack may only be executed with hard contact (smash, lobbed ball, knuckles, fingertips, fist, underhand, etc.). Therefore, the "push" or "shove" technique, in which the ball is directed with the fingers, is not permitted. An exception applies to an overhead ball played with two hands, where the trajectory is perpendicular to the player's shoulders. If, due to excessive movement by the player, it cannot be determined whether the trajectory is perpendicular, it will be considered a foul.
-
Therefore, remain still after the execution of this ball so that the referee and opponent can assess the position of your shoulders in relation to the trajectory. Defense: Only a hard-hit ball may be defended as "dirty" (longer or multiple contact). A lobbed ball, a ball hitting the net, or a block may not be considered hard-hit.
-
Block: A block counts as playing the ball, so after a block, the ball may be played a maximum of two more times, with the person who touched the ball during the block also being the one playing the ball a second time.
-
Net Contact by Player: If a player makes contact with the net, the service goes to the opposing team.
-
Body Use: The ball may touch any part of the body.
-
Number of Ball Touches in a Rally: The ball may be played three times by a team before it crosses the net.
-
Court Size: All categories: 8 x 16 meters
-
Net Height: Men: 2.43 meters; Women: 2.24 meters
